Global Institute of Applied Governance of Science, Knowledge Systems and Innovations
Is a Forum and a Think Tank in Knowledge Systems focussing on Science and Society Interface. It is a Research and Development entity that is embedded in national, continental and global policy with inclusive, sustainable human development as the objective. In its applied governance dimension, the Institute will strategically relate to local communities, and take engaging with schools, colleges, and post-graduate outreach and projects emanating from it to evoke learning as a reciprocal project.
The Institute acknowledges from the start the need for plural viewpoints, enhances community and collective and life-long learning that acknowledges the diversity of knowledge systems.
The Institute’s aims and Objectives
Our aim is “To foster strategic dialogue among knowledge systems”. And our Objectives are stated in the list.
- Highlighting UNESCO’s agenda for Science in the 21st Century through focussed seminars at country, regional and continental levels. This will allow young scientists to take a broader but deeper perspective when dealing with the outcomes of science.
- Gathering leading thinkers across the disciplines to function as a “Global Governance Watch”.
- Monitoring the cultural ethics and methodologies used in science collaborations across cultures;
- Monitoring the state of policy on IKS nationally, regionally, and internationally especially focussing on the holistic public understanding of science using the perspectives outlined by the Institute above.
- Furthering the values and goals of inclusivity, diversity and innovations with regards to knowledge systems.
The Institute affirms that our society and institutions have an increasing need for an individual who can stand at the interface between new knowledge on the one hand and major national and international needs on the other, and act as a constructive channel to pass information in both directions (World Conference on Science, Budapest 2000).
